Soft relates to a description of how something feels to the touch.


Gentle is more of an action. How you treat an object/person.
hard and ruff
Soft is how something feels. Soft to the touch





Gentle is how a motion is used. a very slow way of touching.





That's just what I think, I'm not an expert
This is a guess but I would say that something soft is something you can touch like fur or silk and something gentle is an action like a touch or a thought etc. Does that make sense? Probably not haha

But in terms of Softly and gently, its a matter of tense.





If someone was sick, you would stroke their face gently. If you loved someone,you would stroke their face softly.
Soft would be like cotton wool soft to touch, gentle would be if you were rubbing gently somewhere sore
