How would you talk to your 10 yr. old son about the Birds & the Bee's??

How much should be said?? What should be said? How would you talk to your 10 yr. old son about the Birds %26amp; the Bee's??
By 10 he will have almost certainly picked up the 'basics' as I had at that age. I personally found it really awkward having that talk, and would have felt far better if it had been done as informally as possible. A casual question or something. That said, if you believe he has little or no idea, sit him down, give him the basics, and show one of those books they have with basic outlines of males/females (ie, not full on porn) and use that as a visual aid, I suppose. But find out what he does know before you do that. Ask if he's heard the word 'sex' and if he knows what it means etc.How would you talk to your 10 yr. old son about the Birds %26amp; the Bee's??
I ran into this problem because my daughter found out about Jamie Lynn Spear's pregnancy. I discussed it in general--but to my surprise, whether it is good or not, she already had the basics down.

I am hoping they incorporate the pregnancy in Zoey and do it right-- show that it is not at all cool to get pregnant as a teen, but if it happens it is a good thing to go through with the pregnancy. It is a fine line to sketch out, but I do hope they tackle it.
I would give him the basics... nothing overly graffic (ejaculation etc) and let him ask questions. Whatever he is mature enough to ask, he is ready to know. Just avoid being pornographic in your descriptions. Sometimes it is ok to say.. I will talk more about that with you when you are ready...
I would explain the whole process. Go to the library and get a book, they are pretty informative. No sense leaving him with questions, be very open about it. But reinforce that sex is for 2 people who are married and who love each other. But be sure all his questions are answered so he doesn't go asking other people about them. And its better if both the mom and dad sit down with the child as they both know their subjects the best.
He probably already knows, I knew at the age of nine and ALL of it. (I'm turning 13 this month.) Trust me, kids have very dirty minds these days, and i'm not one of them. His friends have probably told him and i'm pretty sure that teachers that showed videos that are required to show depending on where you live.

Just ask him if he knows and fill him in on what he doesn't know.
